The Trump administration has already cut off Cuba’s access to oil. Now it’s attempting to starve the Cuban people, targeting the country’s capacity to grow, process, and import food — unless it buys from US corporations.
I think the US is just bitter. They had a thing going there; Castro ended it. Cuban government took US assets. Cuban government would later partner with the soviets, including the whole nuke thing.
I was really hopeful the Obama policies would turn Cuba into just another Caribbean island, but here we are. I don’t know much.
Edit: So in short, they’re really close to the US and not aligned with the US politically, which is a problem. And you might say the same about Canada or Mexico but it’s on a completely different scale.
