Just like the South African Defence Forces of the South African Apartheid era absolutely deserved to be destroyed as a criminal organization, so do the Israeli Defence Forces of the Israeli Apartheid era.
Conscription was also mandatory in Apartheid South Africa for whites. This does not absolve the whites who participated in Apartheid. Jewish history itself teaches us that “following orders” is not an excuse for carrying out a genocide.
