i am so tired my glasses are starting to fail me and i read:
Major Zohran Mamdani is going to live (short i) on twitch in new streaming series.
so i pictured a netflix show where he lives on twitch 24/7 in a big brother type living room.

This will 100% go off the rails with people pushing their own agendas, or purchased to push an agenda.
If this guy runs for president we will have many bots going “oh yeah what about that one time he hesitated to call it a genocide”. Don’t get me wrong it is %100 a genocide but equating someone with Trump because of this would be ridiculous, he is one of the most progressive democrats around which makes for a nice jumping board.
He was born in Uganda so he can’t run for president. No worries there.
Either of his parents American citizens when he was born?
Not that I’m aware of. Anyway safe bet he’s never going to be vp or president.
dang it I could almost see the bots
That’s because you’re accustomed to imagining bots whenever you see opposition to genocide.
you haven’t even read my previous msg did you? oh wait judging by the single downvote on each post you did. I suppose you just did not want to process it in that case.
Sorry. I thought your initial comment was saying that the opposition to genocide that exists is petty and unreasonable and has no legitimate grievances.
Were you not saying that?
No what I was saying is more related to discussion in bad faith. I find discussions around things like “Bernie didn’t call it a genocide he called only it a horrific crime so he is no different from Trump” quite vacuous and possibly in bad faith too. For instance, I think that if he was the president, US would not be backing the genocide irregardless of whether he called it a genocide or not and that is what matters.
I agree with that. I guess I was just oversensitive because I see that sort of dismissal of genuine objection to genocide all the time.
He eats Dijon mustard!
Been waiting for such a long time for a politician to do this. NYC did an amazing job at electing him.
Castro used to do it.
It started as anyone could call.
Then it was selected callers and their ore screened questions
Then it was his team calling and asking the right questions
Then he stopped.
The mainstream press, being owned by the mega wealthy, hasn’t exactly been platforming and fair in its reporting of left wing candidates in general. This has now morphed to a strategy by left wind politicians to go directly to their voters on social media. Zack Polensky, the Green party leader in the UK, has drastically improved his parties standing simply by delivering their policies directly on Twitter and other social media. This is quite likely to become the way that left wing politicians operate in the near future. They potentially seek to gain leverage to fairer representation and presence in mainstream media, although that might not even matter given the mass exodus and distrust of the people of those old platforms.
But twitch is owned by Amazon and frankly they can and do moderate Twitch streams.
This is not supposed to be a discouragement of politicians connecting with the public via any means necessary.
I just want to point out the flawed logic of saying news media is owned by billionaires so it can’t be trusted, but twitch, also owned by a billionaire can somehow be trusted.
They aren’t yet putting up barriers since their sole purpose is people connecting to each other. There is every chance they do move to restricting access but I think it would be the death of Twitch and certainly Twitter if they started doing so. Social media doesn’t require us to trust some group of people to choose our content for us and as such is a lot less prone to that bias and billionaire control. That isn’t to say the billionaires don’t have an effect, on Twitter what people are exposed to by the algorithm is very intentional and controlled as is the front page roll on Twitch, but unlike mainstream media its still possiblr to see and connect with the unfavoured content and grass roots movements can still form. I would prefer this was all on the fediverse but its not where the people are yet.
I use twitch. It doesn’t take much at all to get a ban of any kind. I’ve seen twitch streamers get banned mid stream. I think this stream in particular is likely to attract a lot of people who disagree with his political leanings and want to troll. It’ll be heavily modded and there are likely to be topics that will not be discussed because they’re problematic enough that a troll could use twitch’s own guidelines against the stream.
“Chat, the billionaires are acting super sus while hungry New Yorkers are in need of a carry. So let’s flip the script. Spend your Bezos bucks here and you’ll help the needy. Let’s goooo!!!”
Honestly, if MAMDANI named his twitch channel currency “bezos bucks”, I would be very confused. But right now he’s earned enough good faith that I’d trust his vision.
Bruh is going to debate mog city council
Gotta support Amazon somehow.
Where else should he stream? Kick?
His own website?
Streaming is extremely hard to do yourself without the infrastructure to support hundreds, or thousands of people connecting to your server. It’s not realistic without the architecture and experience. And Twitch IS where the people hang out. Unfortunately.
gotta use the platforms where you can reach people
