I bet this is just making a statement. Turn off the water for a few days then turn it back on.

As people pointed out, if they keep it closed very long it will overflow so India doesn’t want that. Also blowing up the dam is one hell of a stupid suggestion. Can you imagine how bad that would be to the people downstream? And you know who is down? Pakistan. That would be so dumb.

This is a political point, and this can’t possibly be cutting off water for any real length of time.

Well, it’s not like a damn can halt all water for long in a region like that. Unless they divert water to somewhere else at some point it is gonna be full. The question is more who can wait longer. Nevertheless a horrific action by a guy who instigated multiple genocidal pogroms.

In response to a horrific terrorist attack in a series of terrorist attacks going back decades. I hate Modi but I see nothing wrong in this action.

The water treaty held through three wars (each started by Pakistan btw) doesn’t mean Pakistan gets to take it for granted.

      Fuck Pakistan.

I’m no dam engineer, but it looks like the reservoir is fairly close to full already. I assume overtopping the dam would be Very Bad.

I don’t know if the dam is valuable to Pakistan in terms of hydroelectric power, but if the water is more valuable, I’d be considering blowing the dam. I’m sure India would take it as an act of war, though.

This is more like a trade-war crime. If this is a war crime then the us has been committing an endless war crime by sucking sooooo much of the Colorado River before it goes into Mexico.

If this is a war crime then Ukraine committed one when they shut off water to Crimea.

(This is not a war crime)

Yeah, the Colorado river is nuts. It’s crazy to think that the river that carved the Grand Canyon doesn’t even reach the sea anymore because it’s all used up along the way, mostly by the U.S.

Cue the bombings in 3, 2, 1… Regardless of what happens, you have no right to shit off a critical water source for an entire country.
