Truthfully, this is how the dotcom crash started. A bunch of money grab dotcom companies went bust, and it eventually took out the big players, like yahoo and aol.

So yes, that’s hopefully exactly how we’ll see it play out here too.

The founders got their Google exit, investors got their hype cycle, Disney gets the leftovers, and families get the consequences. Character.AI managed to automate companionship, monetize next to nothing, and somehow make bankruptcy look like the least disturbing part of its business model.

Feels like we’re glossing over children’s deaths here while running an advert for being a despicable business.

Its a race to beat Kevin O’Leary’s terrible fuckover of Mattel when he sold his dot com bubble scam to them.

They paid 4 billion (7+ billion adjusted for inflation) and 16 months later sold it for $0 and still took hundreds of millions in losses. lol

The sad thing is that the families of teenagers which killed themselves after encouraged by their chatbot might not see a cent of compensation. I would feel better if they were paid from the personal possessions of the ex managers.

The whole “ai” industry is as uninsurable as nuclear power. Maybe that’s why they are so wild after software generation: Software is still in many cases exempt from liability, as long as it is not a Boeing 737 Max that your buggy code crashes.

737 Max is not really about software, but Boeing not willing to instlall a proper back up sensor for a flight critical controller…

Its more about a corporations cutting costs at expense of safety more so then dodgy software…not that software could not have been better…

I thought the sensor was an option airlines could add-on/purchase… So it’s scummy capitalists all the way around
